Highway Projects

Route 4 (West) Gap Closure Project - Segment 1: $8.0 million highway improvement project in the Hercules area. Work included modifications to the Interstate 80/Route 4 Interchange, 1.7 miles of widening and new construction on Route 4 to accommodate 2 new lanes for westbound traffic. Project included endangered species impacts, wetland mitigation, utility and railroad coordination. Significant staging and traffic handling plans were required to minimize public inconvenience during construction and maintain a safe worksite.

Route4 Gap

 

Caltrans Storm Damage Restoration (1997 and 1998): Emergency storm damage repairs for over $23 million in highway restoration of damage that resulted from floods in January 1997 and El Nino storms in 1998. The projects included major retaining walls, bank shoring and protection in major rivers (Sacramento River, N. Fork Yuba River, N. Fork Feather River, N. Fork Feather River), bridge replacement and repairs, slide repairs, slope stabilization, culvert replacements, and highway reconstruction. The work was on Routes 20, 49, 70, 89, 99, and 147, in Butte, Plumas, Glenn and Sierra Counties, on Route 1 in San Mateo and Sonoma Counties, and on Routes 4 in Contra Costa County.

CC4-Storm Damage

 

Routes 50/89/128 Rehabilitation: The project involved the design of roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements. Route 128 in downtown Winters included reconstruction of existing roadway cross slope and longitudinal grades to provide positive drainage, construction of wheelchair ramps to current standards, adjustment and relocation of existing utilities, reconstruction of waterlines. Route 50 Rehabilitation included construction of median barrier and modifications/repairs to existing drainage facilities.
